The inevitable return of LSU wrestling
A look back at Fight Finders 006 before 007 filming starts this week.
Through and through, I’m a Louisiana guy. I was born here, raised here, and I’ll probably die here. By association, LSU has been brainwashed into my soul.
Being the combat sports fan that I am, it hurts that there’s no wrestling around. For years, I’ve shouted “bring back LSU wrestling, you cowards” to the various social media accounts affiliated with the program.
I even wrote a 10,000 word article about the topic of LSU wrestling of old and the future.
It is safe to say I’m passionate about the topic.
Bring Back LSU Wrestling
In my never-ending search for Fight Finders stories, I got my eye on the LSU Wrestling Club. Its discovery was directly due to the aforementioned 10,000 word article on the topic.
But I wanted to give the club more shine. I wanted it to be D1.
Getting to be around the wrestling room, I could clearly see that Dakota Boesch and the rest of the staff wanted that too. He even said multiple times that he didn’t want to be the head coach in five years time, insinuating that a D1 program would need a full time, actual wrestling coach.
I also discovered that other colleges around Louisiana, McNeese and Xavier among others, were also trying to achieve the same goal.
Louisiana wrestling is not anywhere near Pennsylvania, Iowa, or Oklahoma, and it may never be. But giving the kids an opportunity to continue to grow through wrestling and stay in state, with lower tuition and closer to family, is the main thing.
Please take a moment and watch Fight Finders 006. It’s not the biggest or most grand episode. But it is the one I’m most passionate about.
