What I learned from going to the Sanda World Championships
Fight Finders 002 taught me many things!
Fresh off of my first episode of Fight Finders, I was obsessed with what I would cover next. I wanted to further the Fight Finders mission of finding a new fighting sports to cover. Lo and behold, the World Sanda Championships were coming close. Opportunity: sized.

Learning from Team USA
Team USA welcomed me in as they were chasing gold in 2023. They knew of me, but only through the World Wushu Federation. You wouldn’t know it.
All five members, Vinny Meng, Lawrence McKenzie, Audrey Meeks, Jayden Saucedo, and Bruce Wang all were open, talking their wins and defeats.
The amount of support they showed their teammates was incredible. Spoiler alert: it boiled down to Bruce Wang as the sole Team USA member in the finals and he’d come up just short.
Seeing the team rally around each other, especially Wang at the end, showed me that while fighting sports are man-to-man, teams are still teams.
Talking with them, I saw how they were a family, all brought together by the sport of sanda.
I hope you enjoy this episode. I’m recording episode 008 this weekend, a short dive into the sport of beach wrestling. But sanda is my best performing episode yet. Go watch Team USA’s epic quest for glory.
